Look at this
face...even his Mom did not love him.
That is until now.
THIS IS
SCAR'S STORY
Scar has been my most difficult rescue for many reasons. The main reasons are from the heart.
I saw Scar for sale in a pet store months ago. It was in April. He was huge. He was so green and social. he would let anyone pet him and get in his enclosure. He always seemed to be saying something with his powerful looking eyes. I did not have 300.00 to buy him and frankly I will not buy a iggy from a store. So when they told me he was gone, I was sad. But in a way glad so he would be in a home not a store. I inquired about the buyer and he was sure that she knew what she was doing because "THE EMPLOYEE ASKED HER IF SHE KNEW HOW TO CARE FOR HIM" the lady said yes and off they went. In August the lady returns to the same store with him and a female. She needed to board them while she moved. The owner was there and said OK as long as you either pay or come in and help clean cages every week. It was like a fee. So she agreed. They agreed on the time frame of 4 to 6 weeks. I got the call from the owner after that time had passed and he wanted me to come see him as soon as possible. I had not known of his return until that point.
I packed up my kids and we went to the store. I was horror struck to say the very least. He was not the iggy I had seen months before. In the time she had him, he was infested with mites. She did nothing. So I talked to the owner who said there is no way he could sell him again so he agreed I could take him. He was treating Scar for mites but I did not want to chance it so I began treatment as well. After a few days and home preparation, I brought him home.
My kids named him SCAR because he will always be scarred by this abuse both physically and mentally.
Scars mites were so bad that they ate his eye lids, front of his face and then some. He has NO nails except the 1 on his back foot.
SCAR has been through a lot since being here. My vet gave me medications to soften up the big scab that you see covering his nose. He did not like the procedure but I think he knew I was going to help him. After letting it soak, I began. The scab went completely through his nose and I had to get it all out so he could breathe. After I got it off he took a big breath and let out a sigh. The scab was not only hard but it had grown through the nostrils into his head as well. After the removal he started improving. An appetite has never been a problem here but the pet store was only feeding him romaine lettus and nothing else. I popped in the store one day unannounced and I went to his cage. It was around 4:00 PM. Not only did he have no lights on but he had no food and no water. I had enough. I brought him home that day. He had no idea what he was going through, I left his cage there and put him in one of mine. I prefer to call them a home. Anyhow I did not want to risk bring home mites to my other iggys so I choose to leave the cage there. Scar is doing well now.
He has his own home and likes the other iggys. He does not even get bothered if my free roamer Buddy goes in there and lays right in front of his home. He seems to like the company.
He has been
mite free since being here and will remain here. Please look at the pictures
and see what WILL happen to your iggy if it is neglected with having mites.
